Léon Bonhomme

(Paris 1870 - 1924 St-Denis)

In 1890, Bonhomme enrolls at the École des Beaux-Arts to study with Jean-Jacques Henner. He works in Gustave Moreau’s studio, where Henri Matisse, Albert Marquet, and Georges Rouault are among his fellow apprentices, and Rouault, who is a year his junior, becomes a lifelong friend. After 1900, he leads a quiet life in Saint-Denis.
