Otto Plattner

(Liestal bei Basel 1886 - 1951 Stein am Rhein)

After taking classes at an industrial college in Basel and completing a course of training as a decoration painter, Otto Plattner studies at the École des Beaux-Arts of Geneva and in Paris and Munich. In 1913, he moves to Liestal. Residents of Basel know him for his murals: depictions of scenes from Swiss history on public edifices, representations of a trade or the history of a family on commercial and residential buildings. He also works in stained glass and illustrates books, employing a range of techniques. Landscapes are his preferred subject in easel painting.
