Werner Miller

(Biberist 1892 - 1959 Kyburg-Buchegg)

Werner Miller, the son of the art collector Oscar Miller, studies with Cuno Amiet, whose formative influence is palpable in his early oeuvre. He later finds inspiration in the art of Hans Berger, who, like Amiet, is a regular guest in his father’s home and the author of numerous works in Oscar Miller’s collection. Werner Miller’s comparatively small painterly oeuvre evinces an affinity with the Impressionist conception, especially in the unconstrained application of translucent layers of paint. Clearly contoured fields of color are another characteristic feature of his pictures.
