Bernard Buffet

(Paris 1928 - 1999 La Baume bei Tourtour)

In 1943, Buffet attends evening classes in design. In 1944, he enrolls at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris. A member of the Salon d’Automne since 1947, he also exhibits with the Indépendants. His winning the Prix de la Critique in 1948 makes the young painter famous. He joins other painters to found the group “L’homme-témoin.” Beginning in 1948, he creates stage sceneries. Primarily a painter, Bernard Buffet also builds an extensive graphic oeuvre (etchings, lithographs, book illustrations).
